Rapporto di Andrea Semeghini - Boredom Fighter
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Cesare Pastore visse è abitò a San Martino Gusnago (Ceresara).
About a month ago Cornelio Gambarini, president of the “Compagnia delle Torri” Cultural Association of Ceresara (MN), contacted me to ask us to participate in a flying show he was organizing with other association volunteers and which was to take place during the “Possenta Trade Fair”. He explained a few details and I left him with the promise that I would call him back to confirm our participation after hearing whether or not Giovanni was available. And we decided to participate!
Subsequently we were told that this event had been in the works for several years now and that it was closely tied to the figure of the aviator Cesare Pastore.
Cesare Pastore was born and lived in San Martino Gusnago (Ceresara). In the nineteen twenties and thirties he gained fame in automobile races in Italy and abroad, driving Bugatti, Maserati and Bianchi race cars together with the aces of his time: Nuvolari (for whom he was a great friend and financier), Varzi, Borzacchini, Bordino, Brilli Peri, Minoia.
He participated in the Second World War as a member of the Air Force and became, as lieutenant and pilot, commander of a trimotor Cant Z 1007 bis of the 51st independent group (strategic reconnaissance) based in Sardinia.
He was an expert in night flight, beloved of his colleagues and the leader of heroic battles that won him the silver and bronze medals of military valor. He died in the skies of the Mediterranean on November 8th, 1942.
The Association wanted to commemorate this great and famous citizen of Ceresara on the 70th anniversary of his disappearance.
Domenica 25 marzo / Sunday, March 25th:
Ore 11.00
11:00 a.m.
First we polished the tie-rods, prepared the smoke canisters and made all the routine checks on the biplanes. Then we took off from Calvisano for a short 7 minute flight to the Ceresara airfield where we were awaited by the Blue Voltige and Pioneer Team patrols who will also take part in the show.
A Stearman also came in plus other airplanes belonging to more friends.
Since the display area is not on the Arfield but in an area adjacent to the town of Ceresara we made a reconnaissance flyover before landing in order to find the display line and the reference points, with a greeting flyover accompanied by some smoke.
Ore 12:00
12:00 Noon
All participating aviators took part in a briefing on the ground. Then we were accompanied to lunch in an old farm courtyard which also included the building where Cesare Pastore was born and lived. We are shown a straight road along the airfield where Tazio Nuvolari and Cesare Pastore tried and tested their race cars!
Ore15:00

3:00 p.m.
Arrival of the airplane with the skydivers, opening up the show.
In the meanwhile a north gentle wind started acting up, caused by some bad weather involving the entire area and which caused a few minor problems for the aviators. After the skydivers land it’s our turn.
Ore 15:30
3:30 p.m.
We struggle a bit with the wind that continues to push us to the display line limit. Crossings, openings and pursuits: clear and cadenced commands come from Giovanni up to the final greeting flyover.
Followed by demonstrations and flyovers by other airplanes one after another without interruption. We say goodbye and fly back to our base, happy for having spent a wonderful day together with our friends and for having helped commemorate a piece of our history, made of extraordinary people like Cesare Pastore, “an all-round aviator”.
